The Building

The Laura Secord building, reimagined

120 Holland Avenue — known as the Real Lofts — is one of Ottawa's most architecturally distinctive authentic loft conversions. Originally constructed in 1956 as the Laura Secord chocolate factory building, the two-storey Art Moderne structure was expanded to five storeys in 1965 and converted into 16 boutique condominiums in 1998 by developer Routeburn Urban Developments. Every unit is a corner suite, every floor has just four lofts, and the building has won an award for adaptive reuse of a heritage building. The iconic yellow brick, curved corner, and wall-to-wall gridded windows remain completely intact.
